This 1972 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia convertible was acquired by the seller’s father in 2011 and is powered by an air-cooled 1.6L flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. It is finished in red over brown vinyl upholstery, and it features a custom-made tonneau cover. Additional details include 15″ steel wheels, air conditioning, a center console, dual “pea shooter” exhaust outlets, and chrome bumpers with overriders. This Karmann Ghia convertible is now offered with a copy of the owner’s manual and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name.
The car was refinished in red in 2018, and a tan convertible soft top was installed in 2013. Exterior details include a custom tonneau cover, dual-side mirrors, dual “pea shooter” exhaust outlets, and chrome bumpers with overriders. Rust-through is visible in the heater channels and the bottom of the nose. Additional exterior blemishes are shown in up-close images in the gallery below.
The 15″ steel wheels wear polished beauty rings and chrome VW-stamped hubcaps, and they are mounted with 165-series Lemans tires. The brake hoses, booster, and master cylinder were reportedly replaced in 2016.
The front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed in brown vinyl upholstery. Interior elements include air conditioning, a center console, and an inoperative Sony CD stereo. The seller notes that while the defroster does not work, the cabin heater is functional. Wear is visible throughout the interior.
The four-spoke steering wheel wears an aftermarket wrap and fronts VDO instrumentation that includes a 120-mph speedometer. The fuel gauge works intermittently, and the analog clock and five-digit mechanical odometer are inoperative, therefore true mileage is unknown.
The air-cooled 1.6L (AE) flat-four was reportedly rebuilt in 2010. The seller notes that the rear engine seal was replaced in 2013, the fuel pump and starter were replaced in 2014, the generator and voltage regulator were replaced in 2018, and the carburetor was replaced in 2019.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle that was reportedly rebuilt in 2013. The floor pans have been patched.
